This journey also sparked our imaginations, inspiring us to envision the stylish opportunities that could unfold along the way. In the words of Bishop Kendrick Lamar, “Sometimes you gotta pop out and show *****!, so we asked some stylists how they would elevate the 49th vice president’s fashion game.
Celebrity fashion stylist Mickey Boom, responsible for the fire looks on Brandee Evans and Shannon Thornton, told us, “Consistency is the key to maintaining Kamala’s authoritative presence. I would do so by first ensuring that a razor-sharp fit is always accomplished, regardless of the look, as my most exemplary way to play up her essential attribute as an astute decision maker.” The Philly native mentioned that he would incorporate exaggerated, deconstructed suit proportions in intricate black and white colorways, reflecting decisiveness and enhancing her presence. For power suits, black symbolizes strength and empowerment, while white represents purity and the potential for women to inspire change.
Sydnee Paige, who has styled the likes of Mary J. Blige, Ziwe, and Kerry Washington, had some thoughts on the matter as well. The wardrobe stylist shared, “To keep the authenticity of who she is and who we know her to be, we naturally love seeing Kamala in strong suits. To elevate and secure authenticity and embrace fashion, change, and strength, I would love to see her in some new suit silhouettes. I also think seeing her in some statement blouses and underpinnings and showing us some strong and purposeful jewelry choices would subtly and effortlessly enhance her style in the best ways!”
