Celebrity designer Bibhu Mohapatra has championed diversity on his runways long before it became a trend. For over a decade, the celeb designer—who’s dressed the likes of Queen Latifah, Lupita Nyong’o, and even Michelle Obama—has been showcasing beauty in all its forms on the runway.
In an exclusive interview with HelloBeautiful before his Spring/Summer 2025 New York Fashion Week (NYFW) show, Bibhu reflected on 12 years of model casting, explaining that inclusivity has always been about authenticity, not just ticking boxes.
Bibhu Mohopatra Has Showcased Diversity On The Runway For More Than A Decade
“It’s everything to me. It’s always been there,” the India-born designer said, responding to a question about the importance of diversity on the runway. “Everyone is talking about it now, but it’s always been there.”
For Bibhu, inclusion goes beyond race, politics, or fashion trends. “They represent the world to me. It’s about really bringing together our community, no matter the color or shape. They tell my story—louder and clearer.”

Bibhu Mohapatra Debuts Denim In His Spring-Summer 2025 Collection At NYFW – We Love!
We caught up with the beloved designer just a few hours before his latest collection debuted at the iconic New York City Pierre Hotel. Despite the madness of NYFW, Bibhu remained calm and collected.
He sat down with us along the runway where his models would soon slay. He wore a black top and pants and a soft blue denim jacket—his design, of course.
His Spring/Summer 2025 collection featured 45 stunning looks that exemplified his commitment to representation and diversity, as well as sophistication and elegant style. Models of various races, shapes, skin tones, and ages graced the runway. They showcased everything from red carpet-worthy gowns to effortlessly chic everyday outfits.

Known for his intricate beadwork, sequin flair, and tulle gowns, Bibhu surprised the audience by introducing denim. “I think denim is the perfect utility, but denim is also something you can make very cool and design,” he explained before the show.
“I live in denim, but this time, it’s spring, and I wanted to come up with an interesting balance of our traditional dressmaking techniques in denim.”
Bibhu’s vision was a mix we loved of couture, streetwear, and detailing. He premiered jumpsuits, wide-leg pants paired with satin tops, and more.

The denim pieces complimented the Spring-Summer collection’s overall vibe, bringing fresh energy to spring fashion through its vibrant mix of color, function, and, of course, impeccable style.
