Crawford has an active schedule that allows her to travel all over the world. The host, who splits her time between Los Angeles and New York, works overtime to maintain a healthy and balanced routine that supports her bustling lifestyle. COVID taught us that airports are breeding grounds for germs and bacteria, heightening the importance of developing a stellar routine that keeps us out of the doctor’s office.
The 32-year-old Sports Illustrated model developed a health and wellness routine that helps her bypass the cold and flu season and remain sane during the holidays while nurturing the maternal advice that allows her inner beauty to shine through. In an exclusive interview, Crawford shares her formula for maintaining a healthy mind, body, and spirit so she can continue to be the best version of herself.
HelloBeautiful: What are your strategies to maintaining a healthy cold and flu season?
Katie Crawford: I’ve been able to manage my cold and flu symptoms using Mucinex, Mucinex Nightshift specifically. A humidifier. That is a part of my wellness arsenal. I also do a lot of supplements. I take B12 and try to keep myself whole and well from the inside out.
I come from a Jamaican family where you gotta keep your neck covered and your feet covered, even when you’re in the house. I come from a big family, too, so whenever someone is sick in my family, I have to stay away from them because no one has time to be down and out and sick and not be able to travel and do all the things that we want to be able to do for the holidays. I have a few things, but staying away from other sick people is definitely a part of it.
HB: How does self-care look for you during the winter months? I suffer from a seasonal affective disorder. I get hella sad, and it’s already started. If that’s something you also deal with, how do you manage it?
KC: I’m bicoastal between New York and LA, but I lived in New York for eight years, and I’m an east coaster, so I definitely feel that seasonal change when it comes on. I think we all feel it no matter where you live. It’s not sunshiny every single day.
I’m learning this with my birthday coming up to maintain the routines that make me feel the happiest. When the seasons change, we tend to change our routines a lot. We might’ve been really springy in the spring and summer, but by fall and winter, we want to hibernate. That’s a natural thing, but maintaining my routines, drinking my warm lemon water in the morning, going to the gym, seeing friends, and not just hibernating inside is important.
It’s really easy to order in, stay in, and be cozy, and we love that, but a part of the feeling we get when we start to feel down is that no one wants to do anything because it’s cold outside. And I get that. Well, let’s put on those jackets and get out.
HB: You mentioned you use Mucinex Nightshift as part of your self-care routine. Tell me about their “No Regrets” campaign.
KC: Mucinex has this No Regrets campaign, which is amazing. It’s about taking the Mucinex Night Shift before you go to sleep so you can wake up with no regrets. You can sleep better and wake up with no regrets about not taking anything before bed—you’ll wake up feeling better.

HB: Outside of cold and flu season, what are things that you absolutely must do when you feel like, ‘okay, I need a break.’ And what are three affirmations that you say to keep yourself motivated?
Therapy is definitely a part of my self-care routine. I try not to go a week without it, not necessarily because something traumatic or terrible is going on in my life, but to put my thoughts somewhere. Journaling has also been a big thing for me. I try not to journal only during difficult times. I try to journal even in happy times so that if I want to read back, it’s not all doom and gloom. I have something to look back on and smile about and celebrate.
As far as affirmations, my mom has always taught me that no one is you and that is your power. So I always take that with me. I always remember that, and what is for me will never miss me. So, if it’s not my opportunity, then that’s perfectly okay. The thing that is right for me will come, and I won’t have to try super, super hard, or go to crazy lengths to be able to get it. The third one is not necessarily an affirmation, but my mom has always instilled in my sisters and me that you are the smartest, kindest, most beautiful, but from the inside out and let that light radiate outwards.
Being beautiful does not make you kind, but being kind makes you beautiful. So, lean into kindness. We need more of that in this world.
